Don't be Afraid to Ask for Help
When I first started Magic I was really nervous and I wanted to make a good deck my own way with no help. After a losing most of my games and rejecting the advice from others, I finally just sucked it up and started asking people for tips. Instantly I understood the rules better as well as what cards were good and what cards bad. Every serious magic player loves to talk about Magic, so if you manage to turn a conversation in the right direction there is no telling what you might find out. You might discover that a card you thought was terrible is actually perfect for your deck. One thing I love about the Magic community is how open they are. They love it when a new player shows up who wants to learn. So much in fact that Wizards of the Coast made a free product for new players. If you go to your local game store and ask them how to play magic or if they have any free starter decks, more than likely they will, they will give you a free starter deck in the color of your choice. Also the internet is your widest resource for help with magic, sites like MTGGoldfish.com and youtube.com are my go to sites when I need help with a deck. Also at sites like Reddit there are forums with people that love to answer questions as well as just discuss magic in general.
